PNW: Angry Birds
Having been generally a bit disappointed by Fear of Flying, I felt Angry Birds picked up the slightly dropped ball with style.

It was almost as if the show had listened to my litany of complaints to whit: Monster not from the historical record, Toby stuck in the lab, forced chemistry between Dylan and Evan, no real sign of an arc plot, one note plotting. So here we had the Terror Birds which are a great monster - what's not to love about killer ostriches. Toby got to wander around even if she was somewhat ineffective (albeit believably so). Dylan and Evan appeared a great deal more relaxed around each other; and we even had the first hint that the lovely Lieutenant Leeds was up to something. I do hope he doesn't turn out to be a real baddie because I think he's adorably fluffy and I was very disappointed that he didn't get to kill a Terror Bird with a screwdriver.

We were also amused by the whole Terror Bird in a Marijuana farm set up. It is obviously a reflection of the fact that this iteration of the show is aiming at a slightly older audience. The fairly graphic evisceration of Blake being another sign of this. However the setting was used intelligently and well, providing both some interesting set pieces (e.g. the siege in the train carriage) as well as an amusing resolution to the Terror Bird problem. The fact that there were human antagonists as well as Terror Birds to deal with also kept the plot moving and varied.

I think this is the first Primeval:New World episode I've actually been quite excited about. Hopefully this is a sign of the show beginning to find its feet.

I absolutely loved the sudden change in Ken when he flipped that screwdriver at the door. There's definietly a harder edge to Lieutenant Leeds than he likes to let on.

The psyhco chickens are always great fun, and I loved the setting.

This was a good ep.

He's certainly the one with, at the moment, the most interesting seeming back story. I'm just a bit worried he's being set up as the series villain and will end up as raptor-chow come episode 22.
