Random Doctor Who Picture

Book Cover for the Infinity Doctors by Lance Parkin. A White background with the Doctor's Ring showing a swirling galaxy in the large blue stone
The difficulty with this book is where to shelve it since it is clearly intended to be an AU in which the Doctor never left Gallifrey though. Until about halfway through the book, I was kidding myself that I could pretend it was set after he had returned to Gallifrey at some point in the future but no. Anyway, since the Eight Doctor adventures occur in canon in publication order I eventually opted to shelve it among them in publication order.

My reading of it was not an AU exactly, but an alternate timeline of our universe hence the line about time being a palimpsest. I leave it at the end of the row.

I think we have different semantics for the term AU.

I think I'm probably being autistic-pedantic again! EDIT: Though I seem to remember Parkin splitting the same hairs (I think he insisted it wasn't an alternate universe in the usual sense).

I use AU to refer both to the "what if everyone was in high school?" type stories and to timeline/turn left/sliding door type stories - though I know there are people who like to reserve it only for the former.
